Liz Posener Making Her Mark in Mixed Martial Arts

Liz Posener, a Pankration and Muay Thai fighter from Vancouver B.C., has been busy turning some heads in the past few months.

The 31 year old wife and mother of two began training in Pankration and Muay Thai in 1998 – two years after her first pregnancy with her baby daughter. Initially, she viewed the sport as “fun” and a great way to get back into shape. At the time, little did she know, that she was entering the world of MMA.

Liz had participated in an MMA “Team Quest” mini camp. After three days of training with Randy Couture, Matt Lindland, Nate Quarry, and Robert Follis, she stated “I learned enough in the first 15 minutes to get my moneys worth.” Two months after the camp, she was fighting in her first MMA match.

Training under her husband Simon, she has achieved an MMA record of 4-2-1, and has fought in previous events such as Elite Fighting Championships, Real Cage Fighting Championships, and Unified Cage Fights.

She’s already obtained a handful of supporting sponsors including SubmitGear.com, Nogi.com, and Bushido.ca and is currently featured on the cover of 2 MMA magazine’s; “NW FightScene” and “FightZone”. Full Contact Magazine has also written a 2-page article on her and her accomplishments.

Calgary Alberta Real Estate

Nestled just east of the Rocky Mountains in the province of Alberta is the city of Calgary. A city with a rich history, Calgary is the third largest city in Canada and was recently voted the world’s cleanest city by the Mercer Quality of Life Survey. Calgary was lao the first Canadian city to play host to the Winter Olympic Games in 1998, and many of the facilities constructed for those games have given Calgary a reputation as a fantastic sporting destination. In fact, some of the world’s best skiing is located a short drive from Calgary at Banff and Lake Louise.

Calgary has come into it’s own as one of Canada’s premier cities and this reputation is bolstered by a thriving economy, quality homes, and great education. The major base of Calgary’s economic picture is dominated by the booming oil industry. In an age where oil is rapidly becoming the world’s most precious commodity, Calgary has excelled in carving out a niche for itself based on the enormous oil deposits that lie beneath Alberta. However, the city has remained cognizant of the need to diversity its economy and has developed a dynamic tourism industry that brings over 3 million people to the city annually. One of the more well-known tourist events is the annual Calgary Stampede.

The housing industry has seen constant growth, especially since Calgary’s arrival on the world stage in 1998. A better and more scenic backdrop could not be imagined as Calgary sits at the base of the continent’s most notable chain of mountains, The Rockies. Homes in Calgary are more affordable than those in the other major areas of Canada such as Vancouver and Toronto and comprise of a great mix of single-family and multi-family residences. There is also a great educational system in place in this city with numerous post secondary options such as The University of Calgary, Mount Royal College, and many other smaller institutions.

Calgary has asserted itself as both a fantastic place to live and a great place to work and play. With strong recreation programs and a bounty of top-notch venues in which to host them, there is never really a shortage of things to do in Calgary. Check it out for yourself !

Stars on Ice first came about in 1986, when popular figure skater Scott Hamilton was cut from Ice Capades. After losing his job, Hamilton decided to group together his resources and take his career back into his own hands, by creating his own small-scale figure skating show. When One Door Closes–Another One Opens

It is June 30, 2009 and in 7 months, the eyes of the world will be focused on Vancouver, Canada, for the 2010 Winter Olympics. My dream for the past 28 years has been to be part of this magnificent event–not as an athlete, but as part of the volunteer medical team. I have spent hundreds of hours travelling the world with our national and elite athletes preparing for my biggest goal-the Olympics. My career as a Sport Physiotherapist is fantastic and extremely rewarding. I still love it after all these years–it was definitely the path I was meant to be on. I have worked with the National Water Ski team for 9 years and have been selected to 3 Canadian Medical teams, traveling to countries such as China, Turkey, Italy and Chile.

My longtime dream is so close, but is it really? You see life has thrown me a bit of a curve ball and I am in the process of searching deep inside for the answer to my question–do I continue walking through the door to my Olympic dream?

Two years ago my husband, Dave, who had just turned 57, was diagnosed with Frontotemporal dementia. I am amazed at how quickly my priorities and purpose in life have changed. Instead of travelling with athletes, I am spending more time at home with Dave and our 2 grown children, learning ways to enrich our lives, despite our latest challenge.

Dementia is unpredictable and every day brings surprises. There is no way of knowing how Dave will be doing tomorrow, not to mention 7 months from now. Dave is able to drive–but for how much longer? He makes simple meals like toast and jam for breakfast, crackers and cheese for lunch–what about dinners? Dave showers and changes his clothes when reminded–will that be different in 7 months?

My heart and soul rests with Dave and the family. We don’t know what our future holds and how much quality time is left. Last week when I was out in the garden, smelling the freshly opened flowers, my decision finally came from within. I have decided that working with our athletes for 4-5 weeks at the Olympics is too high a price to pay for our precious time together. Honestly? I feel sad, but there are no tears. It feels wonderful to be reaching a place of inner peace with our new life with dementia.

Living with dementia has been the ‘tipping’ point in my life–in a good way. I have learned to search deep inside for answers on how to live life better than before and what my next step should be. I am finding joy and laughter in the little things Dave says or does because he can find joy and laughter in his life. Every time Dave gives me one of his genuine, innocent smiles, it reminds me of a child under the age of 6 or an adult over 80. I am living with someone who is shedding his social layers and is the ‘real deal’.

Last week I received notice that I am shortlisted for the Olympic host medical team. I have made myself available for 1 week, not 4 or 5. I am excited, but it is now in the hands of the higher powers whether it is best for me to go. If my dream of going to the Olympics is meant to be, I will be thrilled. If not, I will be sitting with my husband in the comforts of our home watching the Olympics on TV–knowing that life is turning out just the way it is supposed to. Life is becoming simpler and more peaceful. I never imagined that closing the door to my Olympic dream would open a richer, more joyous one!

Shaun White Olympics 2010 Video – Shaun White, Snowboarder

Shaun White has been one of the most talented snowboarders lately. He holds many of the highest accolades within snowboarding and skateboarding. He started to his Olympics career in 2006 and won a gold medal in men’s halfpipe  in Turin, Olympic Winter Games. By this time, he won 13 career Winter X Games medals, 6 of which are superpipe. In February 2009, he won a gold medal in the World Cup event at Cypress Mountain and won the Winter Dew tour in 2008-09. He also competes as a skateboarder and he has won three Summer X Games medals.

In one word, Shaun White possesses awesome skills and instantly recognizable looks. This talented snowboarder won a gold medal in Vancouver 2010 Olympics too. You can see the details and a video about this below:

>>Shaun White Olympics 2010 Video

Before going on talking about his success in 2010, let me talk briefly about who Shaun White is. Shaun Roger White was born in San Diego, CA in 1986. Unfortunately, he had two big surgeries before he was one year old about a heart defect. However, this did not prevent him from charging into sports like surfing, soccer and snowboarding at a very young age.

Growing in a family of five, his family spent the weekends on trips to local mountains most of the time. And that is when he started skiing, at the age of four. Soon, his parent noticed his ability on snowboarding and supported him as much as possible. He entered his first amateur snowboard contest when he was only seven and turned into a pro with the support of his sponsor at the age of 13. He won 5 national titles as an amateur and in 2001, captured his first major win.

2010 Olympics is the second consecutive win of Shaun for the US. He unleashed a series of 5 spectacular tricks, capped off his double flipping, three-and-a-half spin to win. Even before his last run, his championship was obvious. He got a winning score of 48.4 and his teammate Scott Lago, took the bronze medal.

What a great accomplishment for a person having serious surgeries at the time he was a baby.
